Throwing Courses for Beginners 5 Weeks/Session
Clay Time is running wheel throwing evening courses . These are our most popular courses for wheel throwing.
Courses are taught by Clay Time experienced potters.
Each student will have their own wheel to work on for the entire duration of the course.

Beginner's Throwing Course Outline – 5 weeks (one evening per week):
Week 1 – introduction to wedging, centering, compressing, pulling.
Introduction to clay, playing with the material and learning how to wedge and center, and then showing compression and basic pulling of walls (creates a wide shallow dish). Make your first pot.
Week 2 – wedging, centering, compressing, pulling.
Continue practicing of the process, students can make pieces with taller walls (i.e bowls) (keep the pieces leather hard for the next class)
Week 3 – wedging, centering, compressing, pulling.
Students to throw and work freely on the wheel, assisting where needed, continue the practice of wedging, centering, compressing, pulling. Finally make the pieces that you would like to fire and keep now you are more familiar with the process.
Week 4 – free work and turning
Show demo of turning a piece, students get stuck in on their thickly thrown cup forms for them to practice turning on before they turn their own better pieces for finishin. Also students will be shown how to make and attach handles to mugs.
Week 5 – glazing – an introduction to glazes.
Glazing final pieces using our extensive range of glazes, crystal glazes and oxides You can choose the best 6 items to take home.

You can reschedule your class provided we are given at least 7 days notice before the class
