In this course you will learn 

• some basic glaze theory

• making and using various test tiles (single, line blends and triaxial blends),

• processing plant ash and found clay

• Testing these natural materials in a base glaze

• Glaze a finished piece

This course will give an overview of basic glaze theory to help you understand the testing results. We will hand making test tiles, and get messy processing plant ashes and clay, these are the natural materials we will test in various blends with a base glaze.

From these test results you will choose a 'final' glaze to add to a pre made mini vase (12cm approx)

This is an experimental course all about testing and hands on learning any results will come from your own material combinations. 

We hope this will be the first step in you learning more about glazes and how to include natural materials.

No knowledge of glaze chemistry is required, as you'll learn some basic principals as part of the course

You will take home any test tiles you made plus the final pot, which will be ready to collect 1 week after the last class.

Week 1 - glaze theory and making test tiles

Week 2 - processing raw materials and single tests

Week 3 - line and triaxle blend tests

Week 4 - access our result and choose a glaze to make and paint onto a finished piece
