Beginners' Throwing Courses-

Well Walk Pottery

The Well Walk Pottery  permenantly closed,as a pottery,  in February 2019.

New introductory courses to wheel throwing on Thursdays and Tuesdays.

This is a great way to start on the potter's wheel and try to get to grips

with throwing.  5 Week Courses and One Day Courses are now on offer ;

Courses are taught by Clay Time's experienced potters.

Each student will have her/his own wheel to work on for the entire

duration of the course.

5 spaces are available; using 5 potter's wheels.

Price : £229  price is inclusive of tuition, firing and glazing.

Beginner's throwing  course outline - 5 weeks; one session a week-

Week 1 - introduction to wedging, centering, compressing, pulling. 

Introduction to clay, playing with the material and learning how to wedge and center, and then showing compression and basic pulling of walls (creates a wide shallow dish). Make your first pot.

Week 2 - wedging, centering, compressing, pulling.

Continue practicing of the process, students can make pieces with taller walls (i.e bowls) (keep the pieces leather hard for the next class)

Week3 - wedging, centering, compressing, pulling, turning.

Show demo of turning a piece, students get to practice turning on  they their own pieces. Also students will throw a couple of mug shapes and will be shown how to make and attach handles to these.

Finally make the pieces that you would like to fire and keep.

Week 4 - Free work, Students to throw and work freely on the wheel, assisted where needed, continue the practice of wedging, centering, compressing, pulling. Make your best pieces ready for turning and finishing in week 5. Turning and finishing all your pots and decorating them ready to go in the kiln after drying
