What we do
Clay time has a studio in Arsenal and is opening a new studio in Highgate this Spring. Between these studios we delivery beginner evening classes, day courses and 2 hour taster sessions in both handbuilding and wheel throwing. We work with adults and children, offer pottery painting and host sessions for parties, community groups, schools, charities and corporate events.
Job description
We are looking for people who have experience of working in a ceramics studio and can teach, but can also get stuck in with general studio work
To teach wheel throwing and/or hand building, the classes range from one-off 2 hour tasters, single day courses and evening courses that span 5/6 weeks. Most of our courses are for beginners but we do also provide improver evening classes.
Beginner wheel throwing evening courses cover making cyclinders, bowls, trimming and glazing.
Handbuilding courses cover pinching, coiling, surface decoration and glazing.
Tutors often come in to do general studio work prior to their classes, this is paid as a separate rate and includes general tasks such as helping customers and cleaning up, plus more technical things such as recycling clay, trimming and trimming pottery, mixing glazes and loading kilns.
