Throwing Courses for Beginners 5 Weeks/Session
Claytime is running wheel throwing evening courses , with 8 places only on each. Courses are taught by Clay Time experienced potters. Each student will have her/his own wheel to work on for the entire duration of the course. 6 pots are fired and glazed included.

One Day Wheel Throwing Course for Beginners: Great gift for someone

This course focuses on the basics and on developing these skills: wedging, centering, compressing, pulling and turning. Basically following the first 4 weeks of the 5 week course below. We fire your best 6 pieces for you and dip them in a colour of your choice.
Beginner's Throwing Course Outline - 5 weeks (one evening per week):
Week 1 - introduction to wedging, centering, compressing, pulling.
Introduction to clay, playing with the material and learning how to wedge and center, and then showing compression and basic pulling of walls (creates a wide shallow dish). Make your first pot.
Week 2 - wedging, centering, compressing, pulling.
Continue practicing of the process, students can make pieces with taller walls (i.e bowls) (keep the pieces leather hard for the next class)
Week 3 - wedging, centering, compressing, pulling, turning.
Show demo of turning a piece, students get a couple of basic thickly thrown cup forms for them to practice turning on before they turn their own pieces. Also students will throw a couple of mug shapes and will be shown how to make and attach handles to these.
Week 4 - Free work, Students to throw and work freely on the wheel, assisting where needed, continue the practice of wedging, centering, compressing, pulling. Finally make the pieces that you would like to fire and keep.
Week 5 - Glazing An introduction to glazes. Glazing final pieces using our extensive range of glazes, crystal glazes and oxides You can choose the best 6 items to take home.
